Google Says Rel Sponsored Not Needed For Internal Links To Affiliate Product Reviews

You don’t need to nofollow or use a rel sponsored attribute on your internal links, even if those internal links lead to sponsored reviews content with affiliate links to those products.

Lily Ray asked Google’s John Mueller about this and John said while we were halfway away, there’s no need for link attributes Twitter.

Lilly asked “If you have pages on your site that offer a sponsored review for a brand/product with affiliate links (that’s the whole purpose of the page), should the internal links to those pages have any attributes (rel = sponsorship, etc..)?”

John replied “Nah, inside the site isn’t really a problem, because you’re just linking from one part of your site to the other.” He added, “I’ll try not to think about this when I’m not fully awake though. How often is the sponsored link?”

Here are those tweets:

Honestly, I’ve never considered not following or sponsored links to internal content that have affiliate links inside of them. Sure, add them to your external affiliate links but links to pages on your site that have affiliate links on them look like a “double fence” that may not be needed here.

So this question and answer was new to me.

Forum discussion in Twitter.
