Video broadcast: Saturday could be a snowy day

Oh, it’s a beautiful afternoon outside. We have a lot of sun but it’s cold. I still need that heavy coat. Winter is still here, that’s for sure. We’ll be a little warmer tomorrow from our 40s today to our 50s tomorrow. And then with the weekend approaching we’re looking at the possibility of snow and I’ll say it seems more and more likely although it’s still just a possibility nothing concrete yet. When we take an outside look at the high pressure is in great control. We have a light north wind there. It pulls in some cool air which is why today is colder than yesterday. By the way, tomorrow our wind will be coming from the south and it will be a little warmer. But take a look. We’ve got an area of fairly low pressure making its way across western Canada that’s going to lower and give us a chance of snow as the weekend approaches, believe it or not. Not today, lots of sunshine, clear skies, frigid conditions all night tomorrow it’s going to be partly cloudy and about the same day we’ll have a little clipper for a system here that’s going to roll a bit through late Thursday and Friday. But for most of us we stay dry. No big deal all eyes on Saturday in this low pressure area. We have several scenarios here. The first is that this low pressure area goes to the north. If he chose this path, we’d probably see some light snow for the mountains, but nothing really for the northern region other than some light rain. If this is traveling south, then we could see some snowfall across the mountains and north. The timing on this will be Saturday afternoon. This is how it looks now. If it just started in the afternoon, it will start as rain no matter where we are in the mountains of the northern part because the temperatures will be very warm. But as temperatures start dropping at 78 at night through the mountains, and after a while through the northern region and this still takes the moisture out into the bay and kind of blows it across our area, then we can see some measurable light snowfall across the area. North of the state and mountains too, probably in the very early morning hours of a Sunday. The European model shows at 4 am on Saturday. Again, there isn’t much snowfall, this would be in the higher elevations where it’s cooler. At lower elevations, it will only rain. But as the evening goes on, if that humidity is still intact we could see some measurable light snow, anything from dust or a couple trickling up a half inch, maybe an inch or so, some weather models heading maybe we’ll get a little more . But again, it will all depend on the timing and tracking of that low. So at this time, that opportunity seems more likely, but it’s still just an opportunity. So we’ll keep tracking this really low stock, watch every move he makes and keep you updated. In the meantime, it’s all about today’s sunrise and cool air. The 40s had daytime highs going back to the 50s tomorrow, Thursday, and into Fridays across the northern region. Not too bad in the mountains either, but Saturday’s rain will probably turn into snow.
