Video broadcast: Winter has arrived

Well, happy Monday. We had so much snowfall in the mountains earlier today, we had quite isolated thunderstorms on an active early morning time frame. You can see as we enter at 89am this is over so the rain continues to descend to the east. Besides the center of the low pressure area, significant snowfall will continue through Boone all the way to Roanoke Virginia. But you can see from west to east, we will continue to see that clearly. We had some snow across. Asheville will have some of these snowfall totals a little later in the day, we had quite a bit of rain across the northern region. It averaged 1 to 3 inches of rain falling at a very consistent pace most mornings, still seeing temperatures drop a bit before picking up when the sun goes down this afternoon. But the thirties through the mountains the forties across the northern region. But that’s what I want to point out, it’s the wind chill, we have some pretty strong winds that make us feel like our teens at times and from the low to mid twenties through the mountains and thirties in the north of the state. So it will feel cooler as we go a little further in the day because this cold air is constant, it is now coming from the north and our winds are rising. So this is going to explode into us a little easier, so make sure you’re packed on your way out. We have very high winds and gusts of wind. This will continue. We have a wind alert in effect for most of the northern region until 2am today. So expect the winds to rise even after the snow and rain are over. It will happen around 10, 11 AM. It will disappear, and it will disappear quickly. We’ll be in a lot of sun by 1 p.m. but still call it, we’re still cold. And in fact, we’ll be maintaining clear conditions overnight which means temperatures will actually drop into the teens, not windy, but actual teen temperatures, through the mountains, into the mid-20s across the boreal. So tomorrow morning it will be a shock to the system, especially after some mild temperatures we’ve seen, it’s going to be cold all day too. But then we see we get a bit more of a bounce or bounce back into the 50s by Wednesday. Our next front comes through Thursday with a few scattered showers, but that’s going to cool us down again for Friday day highs on Friday only in the forties through the thirties across the state, through the mountains, look at this in the mountains, a few nights at least as temperatures drop to Teens and low twenties, mm hm
